What attracted you to their work

- Not only these three photos but many of his collections have a smooth yet modern feel to them. He combines off-focused objects with focused to make it smooth. He keeps the colors throughout most of his collection organic, soft greens, yellows, and browns.

What do you like about it?

Personally, I like natural lighting and settings, so his work definitely appeals to me. Contemporary art in general is very homemade, its in the now, so I enjoy that.

What i dislike is the complexity of some of the pieces. Sometimes you want to find the point or focus of the piece but there are so many objects or distractions.

Composition and use?

They certainly use leading lines to take the viewers eyes through the piece. The contrast varies but makes it interesting. Meaning sometimes theres high contrast while others there's low. And finally, the rule of thirds is used in most of his pieces for the subject.

Question 1:  Describe the lighting.  Where is it coming from?  Does it seem natural (from the sun)?  Or does it seem artificial (from a flash or a bulb)?  Is the lighting dramatic?  Does the lighting set a certain mood for this photo?

- the lighting is bright and even since there aren't too many shadows. The mood is obviously very organic with all the browns, yellows, and greens

Question 2:  What do you see in the photo?  Make a list of all the details. (for example: bricks, steps, clouds…)

- This photo is surprising in its accuracy to the Hawaiian islands. The yellow moss is heavily textured like the ocean would be.

Question 3:  What symbols do you see? What do they symbolize?  

- The green moss represents the islands. The yellow could represent the ocean or coral reef.

Question 4:  What is happening in this photo?  Name all the actions and events.

- The moss is a representation of the islands. The growth in the moss could represent growth in the island.

Question 5:    What does this photo remind you of?  Something you’ve seen or done?  Somewhere you’ve been?  Someone you know?  Compare it to something.

- I work at a surf shop and a few of the guys go out to hawaii for the winter so its pretty cool to see this representation

- definitely authentic. Maybe Nina wants to travel to all these different places.

Question 7:   What emotions do you see in this photo?  (...peaceful, happy, melancholy, loneliness pride…)

How nature connects around the world. Its very unified and organic.

Question 8:   What messages, idea, or concepts do you see in the photo?  

- It almost seems like an environmentalist campaign

Question 9:   How does this photo make you feel?  How do you think the artist wanted you to feel when making it?

- It certainly makes me want to go to all these places. It makes them feel closer.

Question 10: What is the title of this photo?  Does the title make sense to you? Create your own title for the piece.
