Artist Statement

A lot of the work I do at the moment is for myself. I feel that at this point in my life I’ve past the point of high school. I’ve past the point of insecurity, and fear, and really caring what judgments people have on me. The work I do is to remember. Remember feelings, experiences, and the people I experienced it with. As I figure out life I take my work with me. At the moment I don’t have much to share. If anything my work is what makes up my book. If people want to look through it, read it, and figure it out, It’s there. My goal is to one day find Something to share openly to people. One thing I feel strong enough about, and something meaningful enough, that it’ll make people want to see it. Whether it’s through a camera, a sport, or a video, that is my goal.
The materials I use are the things that I use most in my daily life. Much of it surround my travel through soccer, or my experience here in York. In York, I photograph the sea because it’s a huge part of my life. I capture the locals, the environment, the aesthetic, and the vibe. It’s hard since my ability with a camera isn’t always up to par, but the more you try the better you get. When I travel it’s always about just capturing a moment. Much of the moments I could capture surround the team, and I’d rather enjoy then then whip out a DSLR and take pictures of everybody. They would get a little weirded out. Although, when I do get a chance to, I take it. I’ve been to probably every state on the east for soccer, and I’m proud to say it. The materials I use are the ones that have an impact on my life. I photograph bog field and all its aspects. I spend thousands and thousands of hours there working on my craft, so the features of the field you see, are just another part of me.
My new work surrounds me finding my message. What I want to share with the world. The landscapes and experiences I show now, are just a part of me figuring it out. Not just cameras and art, but those feelings deep down. With this new work, I’ve been shifting back and forth between video edits and stills. Video’s can capture an experience, but a still captures a single moment in time, and can show a message. It allows the viewer to see that one moment in time, and really see the meaning and metaphors behind it. I have countless videos of my previous experiences, but I think some of my work has shifted towards photos. I want people who want to be able to figure out my work,to do so, and the people who don't, not figure it out. A lot of the messages I want to express are complex and philosophical. They’re hard to express, but I’m working on honing my ability to do so. To me art is an action. You have a message you want to express to others or to yourself, and you take the initiative to create it. Even with landscape stills, it’s still a feeling or an aesthetic in a moment you’re trying to convey. I treasure those moments, and use my camera to capture and share.
